Are You Insane?

Are You Insane?

Greetings, everyone! About two weeks ago, Nick Wilke and I proposed a Line 6 Insane mixing challenge in a thread in Chango. After some conversation about a piece we could do, we opted to do an original song written by Jacob Minyard and re-arranged by me for a band we’re no longer in. I’ve compiled and uploaded the files tonight and I’m sharing them for you all to try your hand at mixing them!

The Line 6 Insane Mixing Challenge rules are simple: Your guitars may only use the Line 6 Insane channel for tone. The rest of the mix is entirely up to you. I have provided a clean DI of the guitars, basses, keyboards and drums as well as a MIDI of the full song for your reference. You may choose to edit the bass, keyboard and drum samples I have provided or feel free to create your own. The sub drops and reverse cymbal and snare have also been provided. Tempo is 143 BPM and it remains constant throughout the whole song.

This is my first time ever doing a release like this, so if there is anything I could have done better, please let me know. Good luck and happy mixing!

To start off, I will post my mix. I strongly encourage you to try mixing it yourself before listening to my version, but it’s a good place to get started.

Edit: The guitars.zip and guitars-fix.zip files have been merged. If you downloaded the guitars.zip file after November 3rd, you do not need guitars-fix.zip. I will remove the file on November 7th.

I accidentally failed to upload one potion of the guitars starting at bar 82. These were put on another channel in my mix since I used a lo-fi effect on them. I’ve uploaded them in the directory as guitars-fix.zip.

One thing I forgot to mention: pre and post effects are allowed, but try to keep it minimal. I did a LPF and HPF on my tone and a small EQ notch to remove some fizz. Don’t go too crazy.

All of the files start at the beginning and are cut off when the sample rings out.
